A Tryst with Royalty - Bikaner & Jaisalmer - Day 2 - An Evening in Bikaner

In the last episode, we concluded out trip of Fort Junagarh. After a longish trip of the fort, we were feeling famished and wanted to dig on to some Bikaneri delicacies. We came out of the Fort. Bikaner has a beautiful network of wide clean and well-maintained roads.

We went to this restaurant near the Fort for some snacks

This was one of our biggest mistakes. We ordered some snacks and one of the was one of my favourites Mawa Kachori. When I started eating it and therein was a cockroach. On complaining, the staff and owner were non-apologetic and even rude. We left this place with a bad taste. Next on the agenda was some shopping. Ladies bought some Mojries and got them dirt cheap after a lot of haggling. I was interested to buy some local Usta painting but did not find any clue as to where to buy that.

Then it was time to return to Hotel. The hotel had a beautiful pool. So it was time to take a dip in the pool to cool down in the pool itself

The pool had a beautiful setting and was sandwiched between two palaces an imposing Laxmi Niwas Palace on one side and the beautiful Shiv Vilas Palace on another side. After spending some good time in pool everybody was feeling refreshed.

We went to the Hotel Roof to witness the sunset and another photo session. In the meantime, I had booked a table in the Hotel restaurant.

The setting sun was lending its pale yellow colour to the hotel.

The setting sun in the background with beautiful cloud play was giving an altogether different experience.

A view of the courtyard from the top. The tables are being set up in the courtyard restaurant for dinner. It was still time for dinner so we came to the room for relaxing and having a cup of tea. Around 8.30, when we came out, the hotel was beautifully lit and the effect was mesmerising.

Yellow lighting was adding another dimension to the corridors.

Another view of the beautiful Arch and chandelier in front of Royal suite.

Let us click some photographs before the dinner.

                    Beautifully lit courtyard

An outside view of the Palace from one side.

              Another view from the front

Performers were ready for entertaining the guests during dinner.

So we took the table reserved for us. I and Anupma ordered a Rajasthani thali and kids went in for Laal Maas and Rotis. It was a full moon night and the dinner was a candlelight dinner. The overall experience was awesome. The joy of the evening increased multifold when the food arrived

The thali though costly was sumptuous and very tasty. We enjoyed our food amidst the performance by folk dancers and singers.

This was one of the most beautiful evenings that we spent while travelling and also our last one in Bikaner as tomorrow we move to Jaisalmer.
