A Tryst with Royalty - Bikaner & Jaisalmer - Day 1 - Ludhiana to Bikaner

A Tryst with Royalty - Bikaner & Jaisalmer - Day 1 - Ludhiana to Bikaner
Laxmi Niwas Palace Hotel

After a lot of anxious moments, as I was hospitalised due to severe diarrhoea, when I returned from Mumbai after a business trip, the trip came to the brink of cancellation. But I was fighting fit in 02 days and the program was back on track. The packing was done and we set out for the journey on 3rd March. We started at our fixed time for tours @ 3.00 a.m. As decided Jyotsna also wanted to try her hand on Highway driving. So she took the steering and I was the navigator.

Early morning no traffic open roads and we were munching miles. As the day broke, I took the wheel and we were zipping on butter smooth Rajasthan Roads. We took a pit stop after Hanumangarh, had some wraps prepared by Anupma with Green tea.

The journey was nothing special and by 10.30 we were at our Hotel. It was a heritage property and from the very first view, we fell in love with it.

Checkin was smooth. We were given a short tour of the property and a small history of the same was given. We checked in and the suite was really great.

It was like travelling back in time. Old world charm was maintained royally.  Huge Brass beds with bedposts. Rich velvet curtains. All the frescos were individually and very intricately painted. Each fresco depicted different scenes be it that of hunting or those of war. And these were all original since 1902 when this palace was commissioned.

It had a nice cosy Fireplace, though not in use.

The ceiling was wooden one and intricately carved. It also had the Sun god the presiding deity of the royal family of Bikaner engraved.

Hand-painted Frescos. You can see different animal figures painted in the lamp.

After admiring the suite, we freshened up and were ready to move out.
