A Tryst with Royalty - Bikaner & Jaisalmer - Day 1 - Karni Mata Mandir

A Tryst with Royalty - Bikaner & Jaisalmer - Day 1 - Karni Mata Mandir,

Karni Mata temple is Located at Deshnok nearly 30 kms from bikaner. This place has high following among Rajputs and attracts hordes of tourists due to the presence of thousands of rats. So Karni Mata temple was our first destination of the day. The roads in Rajasthan are butter smooth.

Soon we were at the temple.

Another view of the temple

There was a small queue at the entrance of the main temple

The queue was moving fast and soon we were inside the temple.
An this is what greeted us !!

Rats and a lot of Rats. As per an estimate there are about 25000 of them living in the temple. As the legend goes they are considered to be reincarnation of Karni Mata's sons. Seeing are white rat is considered very auspicious and it is said that all your wishes will come true if you see a white rat.

The entire temple was covered with wire mesh to keep the pigeons away. But the heros were rats. they were everywhere.

      भाई लोगों की पूरी ऐश थी।  मज़े से खा पी रहे थे।

All kinds of offerings were there. Milk, water.

        Prasad.

Due to this the entire complex was littered and it was an eerie feeling walking on floor due to the stickiness of all eatables. The beauty or miracle is inspite of so many rodents, and such an unhygenic conditions, there has never been any kind of outbreak of any disease.

Soon we were at the sanctum sanctorum and Karni Mata blessed us with darshans.

Liquor is offered as prasad to the daiety. A newly wed couple was there to pay obience just after their marriage. ऐसा लगता था जैसे सीधे शादी के मंडप से आ रहे हों।

The Pujari offered their Prasad to the daiety after blocking the view with a cloth.

Rats had access to the Prasad even inside sanctum sanctorum. After some time and witnessing this unique temple, we came back to our car to go to Camel Research Institute and Royal cenotaps.
